Message from the Greater Kingston Softball Association: We hope that you are all doing well and staying safe during these unprecedented times. We want to inform you that although the COVID stay at home restrictions are tightening in our region, we continue to plan for opening the Jr Gaels Fastpitch season when the fields are ready to be played on in late May or early June.
As with many organized sports, fastpitch (softball) will have a few differences this year that we would like to share with you now. We will be working with a pod system this year, similar to that of organized hockey, creating social sports bubbles. Each pod can have no more than 50 people, which means that you will be playing with the same group for the year. Due to COVID restrictions we will not be running tournaments this year, although we will continue to post scores on our website as usual.
Regarding registration, we will be having a hard close date of APRIL 18th @ 11:59 PM, meaning there is less than one week to get registered. Due to pods and COVID planning, we must cap the amount of players per team, as well as the amount of teams per pod. We will not accept late registration this year. Please check our website for up to date information about registration: www.greaterkingstonsoftball.com
Also, please note there will be further COVID protocols and procedures announced as the season approaches. For example, there will be restrictions of 1 spectator per player, signing in at games for contact tracing, social distancing on the bench, sanitization processes, and bleacher restrictions. More specifics will come as we continue our talks with the City of Kingston, KFL&A, and PWSA who provides our insurance for GKSA. All organizations are working together to make sure this is a safe and fun year for everyone. Finally, we would like to share that the Mite division will be combined into co-ed teams this year only.
If you have any questions about this, please send us a message here or on any social media platform, or email Kyra Funk at ke.funk12@hotmail.com . Thank you for taking the time to read this message. We look forward to the season ahead! Let’s go Jr Gaels!
